Black Film makers Festival brings Hollywood to London

September 16, 2007 · 3 Comments

With BET International lending support to BFM a huge buzz emanated from London’s Odeon, Leicester square, where Short Film Awards by unrecognized UK black filmmakers were celebrated by a packed house. Just how big can this event grow and does it serve a need for Minority Ethnic creative talent not embraced by Television mainstream?

yes i do believe there is a need for ethnic creative people to have a platform to show their ability and potential to make great product in any industry. the way we think, the way we dress, the way we visualize the world can means that we have a way of doing things that tends to appeal to many. the thing is these ideas and styles that we possess tend to get taken from us at an early stage and re-packaged and sold on.
We are the reason most music sound they way they do, we are the reason many people dance the way they do, we the reason many people dress the way they do, we the reason even act the way we do. Black people are leaders of the creative world that is entertainment but we have yet to manage ourselves in a way that we can take all this creativeness to the big stage without losing it to others. having a platform means we are recognized early so that we can move steadily to that big stage.
